At Tower Counselling we run the ‘Choices4Change’ Domestic Violence Perpetrator Treatment Programme. This treatment programme is run over a minimum of eighteen sessions which is supported by extensive client ‘home work’. The Choices4Change DVPP programme is trans-theoretical in approach and focuses on the ‘Home Office What Works’ principles. Clients can either complete the programme as in a group setting or individually.

Choosing to change bad or damaging behaviour is always a 'Challenge', but in the end its worth it

 The Choices4Change programme is made up of the following four core modules:

  • Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviour
  • Schemas and Fixed Thinking
  • Boundaries and Communication
  • Emotional Literacy and Relationships

Once the client has successfully completed the four core modules they can also undertake the Choices4Change ‘Circles of Support’ after care and relapse prevention module

Several dynamic risk factors related to domestic violence have been identified by NOMS and have been addressed within the Choices4Change Treatment Programme. These factors include:

  • History of violent behaviour,
  • Anti-social behaviours and attitudes,
  • Relationship instability,
  • Employment instability,
  • Mental health problems and personality disorder,
  • An abusive childhood,
  • Low self esteem
  • Angry and hostile attitudes towards women.
  • Distorted thinking about relationships
  • Male and female roles within relationships;
  • Emotional mismanagement;
  • Social skills deficits;
  • And impulsiveness and alcohol and drug use.

Assessment to Attend Choices4Change

The assessments implemented in the Choices4Change programme are in a variety of formats, including a semi-structured triage interview, psychometric tests, client satisfaction ratings, and official information, for example, offending history, professional reports and drug-testing results. The assessments are conducted during programme entry and again at various points during the programme. The assessment will also be utilised in the process of selection, monitoring and evaluation.

The Choices4Change DVPP is 20 sessions on an individual session basis.  On a group therapy Programme basis it is 24 session. All clients have to attend an individual Triage Assessment prior to starting the programme.
